The Africa Edu Campaign, involvement in HIV/Aids originated in 2006 as a result of a meeting of many partner organizations held under the auspices of the Mount Zion Technology Centre and partner volunteers from different countries. The primary objective of this meeting was to change the perception that HIV/Aids was "a punishment for immoral behavior", to the recognition of the need for 3Cs:

a) Concern
b) Care
c) Cure (if possible)

As part of this Edu Campaign, the Mount Zion Technology Centre is actively concerned and geared to the establishment of orphanages, day schools, nurseries and the creation of work opportunities for women who are HIV positive. This aspect of its work has led to the recognition of the need for an intensive HIV/Aids Awareness Campaign.

Due to a close association between Mount Zion Technology Centre and other local stakeholders; The Africa Edu Campaign has been created with full administration backup from both Mount Zion and other volunteer campaigners who has taken over the responsibility, formulated strategies for the implementation of a major HIV/Aids Awareness Campaign across Africa. Together we want a viable and sustainable HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign.

Developing an aggressive program to translate awareness into action resulted in establishing a strategic alliance with World Cup 2010 Exposure Edu Tour to ensure the successful implementation of a continent-wide launch. Conventional messages have a limited effect in changing sexual behavior and have not effectively reduced the spread of HIV/Aids among the population. But by joining HIV/Aids awareness and the World Cup, an effective means of branding awareness, we will change that.

During the past 24 months, extensive participatory research have been undertaken by the Africa Edu Campaign Project and Mount Zion to develop a strategy to create awareness of HIV/Aids and protective measures against it within East, and southern Africa.

Because HIV/Aids have intensified in non-urban populations, especially in rural areas and squatter camps, the program will focus on this segment of society.

The team has develop an aggressive program to translate awareness into action resulted in establishing a strategic alliance with World Cup 2010 Exposure Edu Tour to ensure the successful implementation of a continent-wide launch. But by joining HIV/Aids awareness and the Art activities eg World Cup, an effective means of branding awareness, we will change that.

The strategy is to develop a three-point program consisting of:

a) Awareness
b) Voluntary Testing and Counseling. The central focus of the strategy will be on the HIV/Aids Awareness Campaign, but simultaneously strategies will be developed for voluntary testing and counseling and peace building and reconciliation approaches in areas where community conflicts have been an issue.
